Kassie Moisan grew up in Tisdale where she attended middle and secondary school. She always knew that she wanted an education, but she always felt like her teachers in high school doubted her capabilities by not letting her take some of the classes that she wanted to take since she has a different learning style than your average student. Because of this Kassie always felt discouraged but decided to apply into the ABE program at Cumberland College. She started at Cumberland College in the fall of 2021 where the teachers helped her realize that she was capable of doing anything she wanted. The teachers supported her and made sure that she had everything that she needed in order to succeed. Kassie’s start of the school year was difficult for her as she had just lost her significant other. Trying to grieve this loss and overcome the financial barrier of being able to afford to drive back and forth to school proved exceptionally hard, but Kassie overcame these obstacles with great determination.
Cumberland College loves to build positive relationships with their students to ensure that their experience at the college is one that students will cherish for years to come. One of Kassie’s favorite memories at the College was helping build that positive relationship through pumpkin carving with her teachers and classmates. Kassie wants to encourage other students through her positive experience by letting them know “It may get tough and very difficult and you'll want to give up. DON’T. Keep pushing through and keep on keepin on. You will get through whatever comes your way.”
After Kassie finished the ABE program at Cumberland College in the spring of 2022 and she went back to work as a hairdresser where she decided she wanted to continue to further her education. She applied into the LPN program at Cumberland College which she will be starting in the Winter of 2023. We look forward to having Kassie as a student at the college again and wish her luck with her studies and future career.
