Saskatchewan Polytechnic's Early Childhood Education (ECE) program gives you the knowledge and skills you need to work in a variety of childcare settings.

Our “Working Toward Your Diploma” program is part of Saskatchewan Polytechnic's ECE Diploma program and is offered on a course-by-course basis.


  • To qualify you must have
    • Grade 12 with English A and B 30 or pass an Accuplacer test with the required score.
    • English Language Requirement
    • These are required and there is no longer an Unclassified acceptance to this program.


  • You need to apply to the ECE Working Towards Your Diploma program by completing an online application form, plus your high school and any post-secondary transcripts, sent to:

  • You may come into this program even if you already have some of the courses listed.
  • You must be committed to attending classes on the listed dates. 
  • The number of class hours are based on the credit hours and credit units.


** The tuition & student fees listed below reflects the total tuition amount & student fees for all 3 courses for 2023-2024. When course registration opens, the tuition amount per course will be visible.

*Note: Tuition, Books and Supplies, Health and Dental amounts are approximate, based on last year's program and may change at anytime.


  • This diploma program will be delivered over multiple years with a revolving schedule of repeating classes so students can apply at any time and upon acceptance can register for classes on a part-time basis. 
  • First a student must apply, then upon acceptance letter will be able to register and pay for classes online.
  • There is space for 15 students in each module. 
  • Spots will be secured with a paid registration.
  • Registrations will close 1 week before the start date of the module.
  • For each module, there will be at least 3 days where you will have face-to-face classes and there will be at least 4 days of virtual classes you will need to attend. 
  • BOOKS - you are responsible to order your books from the Saskpoly bookstore.  We suggest you order books at least 2 weeks before your class starts.  More details to follow in July.
  • CANCELLATIONS:  If you choose not to take a course you must cancel 3 business days or more before the course starts to receive a refund.  If you cancel less than 3 business days before no refund will be received.

** If you have not completed your ECE Cerficiate of Achievement courses, we highly reccomend doing so before beginning courses in the Working Towards Your Diploma program. These 3 courses are also required to receive your minsitry level 2.

Early Childhood Education Working Towards Your Diploma (LEVEL 2) allows registration in the following courses

ECE107 Effective Relationships in Early Childhood Environments (Mar 2nd, 2024 - Apr 18th, 2024)

You will study and practice positive skills to develop effective relationships in ECE environments. This course provides opportunities to identify personal strengths and practice conflict resolution skills. You will build competence in using technology as an effective means of communication in early childhood environments.

ECE181 Observation and Documentation 1 (Jan 13th, 2024 - Feb 29th, 2024)

You will acquire skills in observing and documenting children’s play and development as a foundation for responsive programming.

HUMD102 Growth and Development of Young Children (Apr 20th, 2024 - Jun 8th, 2024)

You will study the developmental milestones from conception through the stages of infancy, toddlerhood to age five. The course provides an introduction to the theories of learning and personality, brain development and methods of studying human behavior, including indigenous world views. You will learn about the effects of heredity and the environment, including culture, on the emotional, social, cognitive and physical development of children and behavior.
