Practical Nursing

Length: 68 Weeks


This Sask Polytech two-year Practical Nursing diploma program will set you on the road to an exciting future in nursing.
This program will help you develop into a competent, adaptable practitioner. Whether you’re working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to bring a uniquely holistic and humanistic approach to providing care to individuals across the human lifespan.

As a graduate, you’re eligible to:

  • write the national licensure exam,
  • register with the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses (SALPN), and
  • practice in any province or territory in Canada

Application deadline March 31, 2016 - no applications accepted after this date.  Applications must be complete with transcripts and any relevant post secondary transcripts.


Grade 12 with a minimum overall average of 65% in the following five subjects: 

  • English Language Arts A30
  • English Language Arts B30
  • any 30-level Math 
  • one of Biology 30, Chemistry 30 or Physics 30
  • one of Social Studies 30, History 30 or Native Studies 30 
  • English language Requirement Specific to Practical Nursing

 * Previous Saskatchewan mathematics requirement also accepted:

  • any 30 level math

  • Student Fees are calculated $75 per academic year.
  • Accepted applicants will be required to provide a Criminal Record Check upon admission into the program. At the discretion of the practicum agency, you may be declined access to a clinical or work placement based on the Criminal Record Check. The cost of the Criminal Record Check is your responsibility. The Criminal Record Check must be submitted in a separate sealed envelope which includes your name, program, and identifies it as a Criminal Record Check.
  • Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR Health Care Provider ‘C’ AED or equivalent is required prior to entry into the program.
  • Proof of current Transferring, Lifting and Repositioning (TLR) certification is required prior to entry into the program.
