Cumberland College offers the pre-professional year of classes that lead into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Saskatchewan.  The pre-professional year is study at the post-secondary level consisting of 30 credit units of courses. A minimum weighted average of 60% in these courses is required for admission to Nursing.  Admission to Year 2 of Nursing is competitive, therefore, the average for admission to Year 2 is normally higher than 60%.

The College of Nursing offers three years of nursing education that builds upon a pre-professional year leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.). Students in the pre-professional year study courses in the humanities, natural, social and health sciences all of which are foundational for the nursing program. The complete program is offered in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert, Yorkton, and the north.  Part-time study is an option, but all courses must be completed within six years of commencing the first nursing course.

In order to be eligible for licensure with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses' Association (SRNA) graduates must pass a national council licensure examination (NCLEX) and pay the required fees.


For admission to the University of Saskatchewan - College of Arts and Science:

  • Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30
  • Grade 12 with a minimum average of 70% in the following five subjects:
    • One English (English A30 and B30 recommended)
    • One math (Foundations of Mathematics 30 or Pre-Calculus 30)
    • Three other approved subjects:
      • Maximum of two natural sciences (Biology 30 & Chemistry 30 recommended)
      • Maximum of two social sciences or humanities
      • Maximum of one fine or performing arts
  • English proficiency

For admission to the University of Saskatchewan - College of Nursing (Year 2):

  • Minimum average of 60% in 30 credit units of pre-professional Year courses
  • English language proficiency
  • Other credentials
    • CPR Level C with AED (due August 15)
    • Standard First Aid Certificate (due August 15)
    • Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector search (due August 15; must not be dated more than 6 months prior to submission)
    • Immunizations (due August 15)
    • Respiratory Protection Fit Testing (due date to be determined)
    • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (due August 15)
    • Transferring Lifting Repositioning Program (register by August 15; however, course can be completed any time prior to November 1)


To become a student at Cumberland College you must first apply to the University of Saskatchewan. The College of Arts and Science application deadline is August 15, 2020.

Application Process:

  • Apply online to the College of Arts and Science.
  • Pay a one-time non-refundable $90 application fee.
  • Provide supporting documents, like official high school transcripts. Transcripts must be forwarded directly from the Ministry of Education or other educational institutions.
  • Complete the Cumberland College Application Form (green apply button at the top of this page) to indicate interest in the program and to receive program updates.

You can complete one or two years of Arts & Science at Cumberland College by taking classes from the University of Saskatchewan and/or the University of Regina. In some cases, it is possible to complete your full degree off-campus (i.e. 3 year Sociology).  Please ensure you see a College Advisor for academic advising to chose the correct courses to complete your degree.
