Health & Dental Plan

In March 2014, Cumberland College held a successful referendum to establish a health and dental insurance program for full-time post-secondary students who pay tuition directly to Cumberland College.  The Student Benefits Plan will provide extended health and dental benefits for eligible students beginning September 2014.  The plan cost $252 per student per year and fees will be paid with tuition.  Once paid, you will have coverage for a full year from the first day of the month in which your program starts.

If you have been assessed the plans fees and have comparable coverage, you can opt out of the health and dental plans within 30 days from the first day your class begins. However, you will be required to pay the Health and Dental fee as part of your mandatory tuition fees. You will be refunded once you opt out.

What if I Already Have Coverage?

Coordination of Benefits: Benefits under the two plans can be coordinated to increase your coverage up to a total of 100% for the actual expenses incurred.  Therefore, following payment under this plan you can submit outstanding balances to the other plan for consideration.

Waiving the Student Benefits: If you are an eligible student and have comparable health and dental coverage you may apply to waive your student benefits. Each student is given one opportunity to opt out of benefits under the health and/or dental plan(s) each year. All waiver forms must be completed online and received within 30 days from the first day of class. Approval of your opt out will result in the plan fee being refunded.

Family Coverage

Each year, you are given one opportunity to purchase family coverage for your spouse and/or dependent(s) by completing an application online and paying the family coverage fee. Family add-on fees will be automatically assessed to your student account.  All family add-on forms and applicable fees must be received within 30 days from the first day of class. Your family can only be covered while you are a student on the plan(s).  See Gallivan & Associates for more information.

There will be no exceptions or extensions for students who fail to submit their completed opt out enrolment and family add-on requests within 30 days from the day your first class begins.
