English Language Classes for Newcomers

New students are welcome anytime from September to June!

English Language Classes

Cumberland College provides free English classes for immigrants age 18 years and older. Classes are provided for people assessed at English Levels 1-8 according to the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) levels.  Language Instruction for Newcomers (LINC) classes and Stage One English classes are held two times per week in Melfort and Tisdale.

Program Dates: September 5, 2017 - June 14, 2018  (there are no classes in August or during NESD school breaks)

To Register:

Contact the nearest College office for more information and to let us know you would like to attend classes. You may start attending classes at any time from September to June.  Registration forms are completed at the first class attended.

To Be Assessed:

Contact Lynda McPhee, Assessor: 1-306-873-3841.
Whenever possible, Lynda will meet learners in their home community for the assessment.

Study English Online

Improve your language skills by studying English online with the help of a TESL certified instructor via LINC Home Study or English Online. To be referred to this program, you must be assessed by Lynda McPhee. Please e-mail or call for an appointment.

Conversation Circles

NEW Starting the first week of September!

Practice your English skills for free. Conversation Circles will be offered three hours per week in Melfort, Nipawin and Porcupine Plain. Conversation Circles provide learners with many opportunities to practice English speaking skills and to learn about Canadian culture. Learn English while meeting other newcomers and making new friendships. Learners may take this program in addition to the evening face-to-face classes or in combination with Online English or LINC Home Study.

All English as Second Language Programs are provided at Cumberland College through funding provided by Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada and the Government of Saskatchewan.
