The Continuing Care Assistant program provides knowledge and skill development in helping people to help themselves in their homes and special care facilities. You will receive training in: gerontology, dementia management strategies, applying the philosophy of long term care into home care, special care and community settings, promoting independence in a safe environment, working with people from all cultures, working with individuals with different levels of physical and cognitive impairment, giving personal care, and attending to psychosocial needs.
Please note: The program will be offered two days per week from Nipawin, and to various locations throughout the region by WebEx. Students will need to participate in the labs by meeting at a Saskatchewan Health Authority facility. This program is for Saskatchewan Health Authority employees, as well as the general public.
The part-time program varies from the full-time program as it does not include Clinicals at this time. The part-time program is designed for students to complete the theory components of their certificate in the comfort of their own communities. It is important that students meet with a Cumberland advisor regularly and monitor their own progress.
If you are interested in applying for the part-time Continuing Care Assistant program, we highly recommend scheduling an appointment with a Cumberland advisor to discuss your options.
