Community Outreach

Cumberland College launched a Community Outreach Program August 2017. The initiative is intended to deliver activities and support services that promote access to school, and the engagement and retention of Indigenous students in Cumberland’s Adult Basic Education Program. Our Community Outreach Workers are focused on developing relationships with students and their home communities to create bridges to school and develop on-going support networks that promote a positive learning experience. As part of the Outreach Program, Community Outreach Workers are focused on developing partnerships with community organizations and services.

Community Outreach Workers are available to support students on-campus as wells as in their home communities. Their role is to assess students’ needs and help secure appropriate referrals within their home or school community in a timely manner. As part of the Learner Services Team, the Outreach Workers strive to provide resources of support as early as possible to help ensure our students’ success throughout the semester.

Outreach Workers will help students address a variety of barriers to school completion:

Outreach Services will also meet with prospective students in their home communities to ensure they are knowledgeable and prepared for entrance into Adult Basic Education.
