Continuing Care - Part-time

Overview:

The Continuing Care Assistant certificate program combines hands-on classroom learning with practical clinical experience. You will build knowledge and skills in: addressing individual psychosocial needs, administering personal care, dementia management strategies, gerontology, long-term care philosophy in different settings, promoting independence in a safe environment, working with individuals with different physical and cognitive impairments, and working with people of different cultures. As a continuing care assistant, you’ll work directly with clients in long-term care, home care, assisted living, some areas of acute care, and even in special needs

Requirements:

In an effort to help some students start and others finish the CCA program, we plan to offer the following courses on a part-time basis during the 2017-18 academic year:

  • Personal Care 1 (SPCR 104) (30 hours)  - Mondays - October 16, 23, 30, November 6, 20 & 27 (no class Nov 13)
  • Interpersonal Communications (COMM 291) (30 hours) - Mondays & Wednesdays - December 4 6, 11, 13, 18 & 20
  • Safe Environment (SPCR 180) (15 hours) - Mondays & Wednesdays -January 3, 8, 10
  • Observing, Recording and Reporting (SPRC 101) (30 hours) - Mondays and Wednesdays - January 15, 17, 22, 24, 31, February 5 (no class Jan. 29)
  • Personal Care 2 (SPCR 105) (45 hours) - Mondays - February 12, 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26, April 9, 16, 23 & 30 (no class Feb 19)
  • Body Systems (ANAT 100) (30 hours) - Wednesdays - February 14, 28, March 7, 14, 21 & 28 (no class Feb. 21)
  • Helping Skills (COMM 197) (15 hours) - Wednesdays - April 11, 18, 25
  • Dementia - Behaviour (DEMC 183) (45 hours) - Mondays and Wednesdays May 2, 7, 9, 14, 16, 23, 28, 30, June 4 & 6

 

Tuition: $1,224*
Student Fees: $75
*Note: Tuition, Books and Supplies, Health and Dental amounts are approximate, based on last year's program and may change at anytime.

Notes:

  • Textbooks are an additional fee
  • Tuition may be paid on a module by module basis
