Education - After Degree

The BEAD Program is designed to provide a unique cohort model of teacher education which supports potential students, who already have a first degree, in becoming teachers within their own communities.

A teacher can support the joy and wonder of learning that will last a lifetime. The BEAD in Elementary Education prepares students to have a significant, positive impact on the future lives of young people.

The diverse base of the BEAD in Elementary Education Program equips students to work with young people, families, community members, and  colleagues in and outside of education. Teachers can help to shape equitable learning situations for all children.

Program Overview:

  • 5-semester (64 credit hours) Bachelor of Education After Degree (BEAD) in Elementary Education
  • Typical class schedule is Monday and Tuesday (full days) and Wednesday mornings.

Requirements:

For admission to the University of Regina - Faculty of Education:

  • The Elementary Bachelor of Education After Degree (BEAD) Program is designed for students who have an approved first degree with a minimum UGPA of 65%.
  • Students must have a minimum 39 credit hours supportive of provincial curricula (such as Arts Education, Health, Mathematics, Physical Education, Reading Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies).
  • It is recommended that students have three provincial curricula areas (9 credit hours of senior courses).
  • English 100 or equivalent is required for BEAD applicants who do not have English 100 as part of their first degree.
Tuition: $15,000*
Books & Supplies: $1,000*
Student Fees: $170
Health & Dental Plan: $252*

Notes:

To become a student at Cumberland College you must first apply to the University of Regina. The Community-Based BEAD application deadline is April 30, 2019. Applications are now closed.

Application Process:

  • Apply online to the U of R - Faculty of Education.
  • Create an admissions account.
  • Select the following options: Admission Term: New; Application level: Undergraduate; Application Type: Teacher Education Cumberland; Admission Term: 2019 Fall. Other information which may be required: Planned Course of Study: Elementary (After Degree) - Cumberland Col (Melfort Campus).
  • Pay a one-time non-refundable $100 application fee.
  • Provide supporting documents, like official high school transcripts. Transcripts must be forwarded directly from the Ministry of Education or other educational institutions.
  • Complete the Cumberland College Application Form (green apply button at the top of this page) to indicate interest in the program and to receive program updates.
